When do I need to arrive?

Our Sunday worship service begins at 11:15 A.M. and takes place in the sanctuary. Arriving a few minutes early will help us orient you to space, get you a program, answer questions, or assist you with seating as needed.

Can we—I bring our—my kids to worship? 

The kids/youth currently worshipping at Holy Trinity are Middle and High School age, but Fr. Jonathan is always ready with a children's sermon should any younger friends arrive. 

Children are always welcome in worship, and play kits are provided for any children who would like one. Children may also use our board room, just off the entry way, as a place to relax and play games if remaining in the service feels too long. 

We're currently developing a space for toddlers and babies to relax with a parent, but it is not quite ready. There is a changing table, however, in the bathroom in the main entryway and a comfortable couch and chairs.

We understand that parents need help and that it is impossible to worship if you have to care for your child(ren) on your own. We do our best to provide for families when they arrive. When we take care of children so parents can focus, we make sure that kids are never alone with fewer than two unrelated adults and/or youths. 

What should I wear?

Wear what you feel comfortable wearing. On Sundays you’ll see everything from jeans to suits.

What is the style of worship at Holy Trinity

The style of worship here is traditional, with hymns sung by the congregation and beautifully poetic forms of ritual. We find the combination of ancient ritual with a theology of radical welcome to be particularly meaningful in a time when so many aspects of our lives disconnect us from our history, our planet, and each other. Our style of worship points us beyond our brokenness and expectations to the Mystery of God's love revealed in Jesus. 

Our service comes from The Book of Common Prayer (BCP), which traces ts roots in the Church of England. All the "provinces" of the Anglican Communion  have a Book of Common Prayer and the current version in the Episcopal Church was published in 1979. This may seem out of date, but the significance of the BCP is more about form and ritual than about specific content. There is great creativity in 

When do I sit, stand, or kneel?

Members at Holy Trinity generally stand to sing and pray, and sit to listen to scriptures and the sermons. Useful directions will be included in the program handed out by a greeter. All are encouraged to worship in ways that feel genuine and comfortable. 

May I receive Holy Communion?

Yes. Some explanation required... 

Church law in the Episcopal Church understands the Sacrament of Baptism to be prerequisite for receiving the Sacrament of Holy Communion. And, indeed, in the ancient Tradition of the Church, Holy Communion was understood to be the joyful consummation of our union with Christ through Baptism. In Holy Baptism, we experience the blessed assurance that Christ’s love is redeeming the Creation from suffering and the sting of death. As we are washed and anointed, we affirm Christ’s love and answer his call to become his co-workers. 

We also have discerned that receiving the love and healing of Jesus through the Sacrament of his Body and Blood may lead someone to an experience which prompts them to explore Baptism. In fact, there are parts of the Anglican Tradition in which Holy Communion is refered to as a "Converting Sacrament." 

What is most important is for each person to discern to how the Spirit is calling them in the moment. No one will ask you at the Altar rail whether or not you are baptized, and all are welcome at the Table of the Lord. 

Do you cancel if there’s severe weather?

Closing the church for services is extremely rare.  However, even if services are canceled due to weather, Fr. Jonathan will livestream the worship serivce. In the case of a cancellation, information can be found on our website, facebook page, or by checking WOOD TV 8
