Book Group will discuss “The Screwtape Letters” on Aug. 25

The book group has selected C.S. Lewis’ classic “The Screwtape Letters” as our next read. It’s a darkly funny story where Screwtape, a devil who holds an administrative post in the bureaucracy (“Lowerarchy”) of Hell, acts as a mentor, writing letters of advice to his nephew Wormwood, an inexperienced (and incompetent) tempter.

Through the letters, Lewis gives us a series of lessons in the importance of taking a deliberate role in Christian faith by portraying a typical human life, with all its temptations and failings, seen from devils’ viewpoints.

Pick up a copy and join in the discussion via Zoom at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 25 for their next discussion
